FAQ

How are tapes converted to a digital file?

Tapes are run through a VCR and connected through an editing program to create a digitalized recording, which is reviewed and finalized.

What if a tape does not play or convert properly?

We will try our best to solve the issue, however aged tapes can have defects that will cause them to no longer work - all tapes that are unable to be converted will be refunded.

Convert to USB or DVD?

Converting to a USB is ideal for playing on a laptop, computer, TV (with USB ports) and other USB supported devices. The video file can also be easily shared with your friends and family.

A 32GB USB or drive storage is required. This can be provided for a low $12 or you can send one with your tapes. View provided USB here.

Most tapes will fit onto a single USB. Additional copies with custom requests are also available.

DVD Conversion:

Converting to DVD is ideal for if you have any kind of DVD (DVD-R) player, which connects and plays on a TV or computer. One DVD will be needed for each tape. However it may be more difficult to copy and share them with friends, so if you'd like to share DVDs you can order additional custom copies here.

How does shipping work?

A shipping address is provided on order confirmation, or provided by us over email.

Please ensure your tapes are shipped securely to minimise movement

Privacy

All digital files on our drives will be deleted within 30 days of conversion completion, or when we know you are happy with the results. Small amounts of tape are viewed to ensure the quality of the video are at good standards.

Timeframe of Conversion

Once your tapes are delivered to us, tapes will begin converting either immediately or within 24-48 hours. From there, each tape can take less than a day, to 1-2 days each.

How are payments made?

Payments are made via credit/debit card when ordering online, or bank account transfer if contacted directly.

How do I place an order?

You can place it through the shop, or you can contact us directly through the contact us section or through our Facebook page.

Where are we based?

We're based at home  in Whakatane, Bay of Plenty. Tapes can be securely posted to us, or dropped off if you're nearby. You'll receive the postage address once you've placed your order, or when you contact us directly.

Are tapes edited?

The video footage extracted from the tape is in its raw condition and to its best possible condition, dependent on the tape. No audio or colour is altered in anyway. The only editing that may take place is to remove large periods of "black screens" to save on storage space, and this process ensures there is no other footage on the tape.

What counts as a successful conversion?

If a tape has content, being audio or video, regardless of the content it is included in the conversion and charged for.

How do I know which tapes are which?

Tapes are numbered with small labels, which correspond to the tape on file.

Eg. A tape labeled '1' is named "TAPE 1" on the USB stick.
